Peter Magosvongwe

Peter Magosvongwe is a freelance professional bird guide based in Mutare on the edge of Zimbabwe's Bvumba (Vumba) Mountains, where he has been guiding since 1998. Originally trained at Trackers Safari Lodge in South Africa, he covers the full Eastern Highlands circuit — Bvumba, Nyanga, Chimanimani, Chipinge and Gonarezhou — and arranges cross-border trips down through South Africa for clients. He freelances out of several lodges including Whitehorse Inn, Inn on the Vumba and Larochelle. Magosvongwe was nominated as a BirdLife Zimbabwe "Nature's Hero" in 2017 for his work monitoring Swynnerton's Robin in the Bvumba Forest Reserves, removing invasive plants and running school bird clubs and walks for children in the Imbeza Valley. Beyond strict birding tours he also runs butterfly trips, camping and hiking, and handles accommodation and transport logistics for solo travellers and groups.
