About
Great Northern Birdwatching Tours is the small-group operation of long-time Queensland guide David Mead, specialising in the endemic-rich landscapes of Australia's tropical and outback north. Itineraries run from the rainforests of the Atherton Tablelands and Iron Range up through Cape York and the Gulf of Carpentaria into the inland Channel Country.
Groups are capped at three guests, with David driving a comfortable touring vehicle and providing spare binoculars and a spotting scope. Past Gulf trips have logged 14 raptor species, 22 honeyeaters, and 11 finches across single itineraries, reflecting both the diversity of the region and a guiding style focused on careful coverage rather than mileage.
