Exotic Birding is a US-based small-group birding tour operator founded around 2004 and run by Jim Wittenberger out of the Seattle area. The company's signature is unusually small groups — typically just 2 to 4 participants — paired with expert guides and flexible dates. Their programme is global, with particular depth in the Neotropics (Costa Rica, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, Colombia, Ecuador), Asian endemic-rich destinations (Bhutan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines) and Africa (Madagascar, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia). The Costa Rica catalogue is built around two-week itineraries that each cover a different combination of the country's Caribbean, Pacific, lowland and highland regions to maximise habitat diversity.
