About
Xikanel is a small Coban-based birding outfit run by US-born guide John Cahill, who has logged 92 percent of Guatemala's bird list (more than 700 species) and co-leads with Michelle Tapasco. The company specialises in long, intensive Guatemala itineraries plus a Colombia program along the Montezuma Road.
Flagship trips include the ten-day Cloud Forest and Caribbean Slope across the Verapaces and Motagua Valley to Tikal, the eleven-day Alta and Baja Verapaz endemics circuit, the eleven-day Altiplano and Pacific volcanoes itinerary, and a five-day Sierra de las Minas wilderness camping extension. The product line emphasises the country's most difficult highland endemics and night-birds, and Cahill is widely cited as the in-country specialist for owls and the Horned Guan ascent.
