About

Wild Travel Romania, originally founded in 2001 as Chettusia Tours by former Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Authority staff Mihai Baciu and Sorin Cismaru, is a small specialist operator focused entirely on the Danube Delta and the surrounding Dobrogea region. Guide Mihai Baciu personally leads tours and takes the photography used throughout the company's website. The Danube Delta covers roughly 5,800 square kilometres of wetlands, reed beds and lagoons and supports around 350 recorded bird species. Wild Travel concentrates on slow-paced, low-impact itineraries timed for spring and autumn migration peaks (mid-April to mid-June and August to September), when 140 to 160 species are typically logged per tour. The delta is one of the most reliable sites in Europe for Pygmy Cormorant, both pelican species, Red-breasted Goose and a long list of herons and warblers. Tours run on local guesthouses and small boats with Romanian boatmen, with an emphasis on Dobrogean food and wine alongside birding. The company works in English, French and Romanian and caters mainly to small private parties of birders and photographers.
