About

Wild Birding was founded in 2016 as a Kenya-focused specialist before gradually expanding into a wider East and Southern African network. The operation pairs visiting birders with local Kenyan guides on small-group itineraries that lean toward the unhurried end of the spectrum — they market themselves on "thoughtfully crafted" rather than maximum-species race itineraries. Their Kenya tours cover the standard speciality circuit (Maasai Mara forests for Schalow's and Ross's Turacos, Mount Kenya for Hinde's Babbler, Kakamega for Great Blue Turaco and Blue-headed Bee-eater, Arabuko-Sokoke for the coastal endemics) but also pay attention to the wildlife and photography side, with itineraries that include mammal-focused days in the Mara and Samburu rather than dawn-to-dusk birding. Wild Birding publishes detailed trip reports — including a December 2024 "Wild Kenya" introduction tour for a young birder and his family — which is a useful signal for the kind of clientele they serve. Outside Kenya they run programs in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
