About

Volcanoes Safaris was founded in 1997 by Praveen Moman and is registered in London, with operational bases in Uganda and Rwanda. The company bills itself as the only operator focused exclusively on the gorilla and chimpanzee parks of the two countries and has built up a network of five lodges around those great-ape strongholds. Uganda holds more than a thousand bird species on a land area roughly the size of Britain, and Volcanoes' birding programme leverages the lodges' positions on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga, Kibale Forest, and Kyambura Gorge to access classic Albertine Rift endemics. Specialty targets include African Green Broadbill, Shelley's Crimsonwing, Rwenzori Turaco, Black Bee-eater, and Great Blue Turaco, often combined with gorilla and chimpanzee trekking. The company runs the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust, a community and conservation foundation, and has been recognised in industry awards for sustainable travel; founder Praveen Moman was named a Sustainability Hero at the TTG Luxury Travel Awards in 2025.
