About
South Birding Peru is led by Jesús Cieza, a Peruvian guide with more than 18 years of field experience running tours nationwide. The operation began in the Tambopata and Cusco region and has expanded to cover most of Peru's classic birding circuits, including the Satipo Road, the Mantaro Valley, the Tumbesian region around Tarapoto, and the Cordillera Azul — areas less commonly visited by the major international companies.
The team builds custom itineraries combining birding with cultural and nature experiences, and routinely targets harder-to-find Peruvian endemics such as the Scarlet-banded Barbet, Ochre-fronted Antpitta and Golden-backed Mountain-Tanager. Cieza emphasizes hiring local community guides as part of the company's economic-impact model.
