About

Satipo Tours was founded in 2010 by Vancouver-based wildlife biologist Thomas (Tom) Plath and his Peruvian co-founder Pablo. Plath spent more than two decades as a Registered Professional Biologist in British Columbia — including work as the provincial Wildlife Specialist for the Lower Mainland — before turning his focus to leading small-group birding and natural-history trips abroad. He has guided 100+ field trips across BC and worldwide, and has taught ornithology courses at Capilano College and Vancouver Community College. The company's signature ground is the rarely birded Satipo road in central Peru's Junin region, an Andean transect known for Andean Cock-of-the-rock, the elusive Eye-ringed Thistletail and dozens of cloud-forest endemics. Satipo Tours also runs trips in northern Argentina and offers BC-based day trips covering Boundary Bay, Reifel Bird Sanctuary and the Sea-to-Sky corridor. Tours are kept small and semi-relaxed, suiting birders and broader nature travellers alike.
