About
Rio Lagartos Adventures has been operating out of the fishing village of Rio Lagartos on Yucatan's north coast since 1995, and is run by Diego "Don Diego" Nunez Martinez, the dean of guides for the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve. The company is the standard reference for the reserve's flamingo lagoons, mangroves and coastal scrub.
Trips include sunrise and sunset boat tours of the estuary and salt flats at Las Coloradas, dedicated land-based birding for the dry-coast endemic set of Yucatan Wren and Mexican Sheartail, and tarpon fly-fishing for anglers. Don Diego works in fluent English and emphasises that booking direct ensures guides who hold the proper SEMARNAT and reserve permits.
