Ricardo Matus is a naturalist guide and wildlife illustrator born and based in Punta Arenas, with around 30 years of guiding experience in southern Patagonia. His field specialty is the reproductive biology and conservation of the Magellanic Plover and Ruddy-headed Goose on their Magallanes breeding grounds, and he has illustrated scientific publications on the birds of the region. Matus guides primarily through Albatross Birding & Nature Tours and on private freelance bookings for visiting researchers, photographers and birding groups working the Strait of Magellan, Tierra del Fuego and Torres del Paine. He is one of the recognized go-to guides for shorebird and waterfowl conservation work in the extreme south of Chile.
