About

Orcadian Wildlife is a small Orkney-based wildlife and cultural tour operator founded in 2004 by Steve Sankey, an experienced naturalist and former RSPB Scotland staffer who has been interpreting Orkney's landscapes for close to 25 years. The company is based at Gerraquoy in St. Margaret's Hope, South Ronaldsay, and won the RSPB Scotland Business for Nature Award in 2023. The operation runs week-long, all-inclusive guided holidays for a maximum of six guests, blending birding with marine wildlife watching, archaeology and Orkney's distinctive cultural heritage. Tours use a 4-star family-run hotel base and electric vehicle transport between the islands, with itineraries tailored around weather and tides to target hen harriers, breeding seabird colonies, skuas, terns and migrants, plus orcas and other cetaceans along the coast. In addition to its core Orkney programme, Orcadian Wildlife partners with the Birdwatching & Wildlife Club of the Grant Arms Hotel in Grantown-on-Spey to offer combined Scottish Highlands and Orkney tours, giving visitors a chance to pair Highland specialities with the seabird and harrier spectacle of the Northern Isles.
