About

Mount Totumas Cloud Forest Reserve is a private 400-hectare reserve and eco-lodge in far western Panama, founded in 2008 when brothers Jeffrey and Michael Dietrich purchased the property in the highlands of Chiriquí Province bordering La Amistad International Park. Jeffrey, who studied Environmental Science at Antioch College and is a fluent Spanish speaker with more than fifteen years of work experience in Latin America, runs the day-to-day birding and naturalist programme. The reserve hosts experienced guides on a network of marked trails through primary cloud forest, with marquee species including Resplendent Quetzal and Three-wattled Bellbird among Talamanca highland endemics. Partnerships with leading international tour operators such as Field Guides, Victor Emanuel Nature Tours, and Wild Planet Adventures confirm its standing as a recognised birding destination on the Chiriquí highland circuit. The Dietrich brothers built the project around long-term conservation and education, providing access for educational institutions and framing the lodge as a tool for protecting the cloud forest while introducing visitors to its biodiversity.
