About
Manakin Nature Tours is a Colombian birdwatching and wildlife company founded in 2008 (and incorporated by 2009) by biologists Luis Urueña and Andrea Borras. Both founders trained as biologists and built their fieldwork around Colombia's most threatened species; Luis spent four years directing the Blue-billed Curassow conservation program for Fundación ProAves, while Andrea has researched the Blue-billed Curassow, Recurve-billed Bushbird, Perijá Parakeet and Yellow-eared Parrot.
The company runs an in-house team of professional Colombian guides and operates across all of Colombia's major bioregions, from the Chocó and Andes through the Magdalena Valley, Amazon and Llanos to the Caribbean and Pacific coasts. Tours range from short endemic-focused itineraries to long multi-region expeditions, and the team also handles photography-oriented trips and custom planning.
Manakin's biology background shows up in itineraries that consistently target hard-to-find endemics and threatened species, and the company is regularly cited by international birders as a leading Colombia ground operator.
