About
Kolibri Expeditions is a Lima-based birding outfit founded by Swedish birder Gunnar Engblom, who has lived in Peru since 1998 and recently celebrated 25 years operating tours in the country. The company runs scheduled and custom birding itineraries spanning the full Peruvian circuit, from coastal pelagics out of Lima to Andean Polylepis forests, the Manu Road, the northern endemics circuit, and Lake Titicaca.
Engblom is known in the South American birding community for combining commercial guiding with conservation work, including surveys for threatened species such as the Peruvian Plantcutter, Titicaca Grebe, Golden-backed Mountain-Tanager and White-bellied Cinclodes. Kolibri positions itself as a budget-friendly alternative to the major international operators while still targeting the same endemic-rich routes, and frequently runs longer 'big year' style trips alongside shorter weekend pelagics and day tours from Lima.
