About
Kirrama Wildlife Tours is a small, owner-operated birding business based at Innisfail on Queensland's Cassowary Coast. The guide emigrated from West Germany in 1980 and has worked as a professional natural-history guide since 1983, founding Kirrama in 1989 to run fully accommodated small-group tours through the Wet Tropics World Heritage area between Cooktown and Townsville.
The company specialises in Cape York and Iron Range itineraries that target species found nowhere else in Australia, such as Eclectus Parrot, Red-cheeked Parrot and Green-backed Honeyeater, and also leads dedicated trips to the southwest of Western Australia and Papua New Guinea. Tours are kept deliberately small, with both beginners and experienced birders welcomed.
