About
Hob Osterlund is the founder of the Kaua'i Albatross Network and the Safina Center's Conservationist in Residence, based on Kauai's north shore. She is the author of "Holy Mōlī: Albatross and Other Ancestors" and devotes her work to the well-being of Hawai'i's native birds, with a particular focus on the Laysan Albatross, which she has studied and photographed for many years.
Osterlund offers small, three-hour north-shore bird tours that begin in Hanalei Valley, where she finds endangered native water birds such as Nēnē, Koloa, Hawaiian Stilt, Coot and Gallinule, and end at Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge for Laysan Albatross, Red-footed Booby and tropicbirds. Tours are pitched as accessible to people of any physical ability and double as a photography opportunity. She is also a regular presence at the Kilauea Lighthouse and gives public talks and book signings.
