About
Doris 'Dorita' Valencia is a licensed Peruvian tour guide based in Cusco and a co-founder of Habitats Peru, a small Cusco tour operator she runs alongside guide Carlos Unda. Trained in birding, natural history and Andean archaeology, she leads custom itineraries that combine the Cusco region's classic birding circuits with cultural visits to pre-Inca and Inca sites.
Her trips concentrate on the Cusco area, Sacred Valley, Huacarpay Wetlands, the Abra Malaga road, Machu Picchu and the Manu road descending into the Amazonian lowlands, but she will also assemble logistics for longer Peru-wide tours. Clients consistently note her sharp ear for vocalizations, her depth on the country's roughly 1,800-species list and a particular knack for finding Cusco specialties such as Inca Wren and high-Andean rarities like Diademed Sandpiper-Plover.
