About

Dionisio 'Nito' Paniagua is a Puerto Jimenez-based naturalist guide specializing in the Osa Peninsula and the southern Pacific lowlands of Costa Rica. He came to professional guiding through a Stanford University bird-banding project and has spent more than twenty years focused on the endemic-rich forests around Corcovado National Park, the Rincon area and Bosque del Rio Tigre. Nito guides under the Surcos Tours banner, a Puerto Jimenez family operation founded in 2006 that arranges birding-focused day trips and multi-day itineraries into Corcovado and the Golfo Dulce region. His specialties include the Osa endemics and near-endemics such as Yellow-billed and Turquoise Cotingas, Black-cheeked Ant-Tanager and Mangrove Hummingbird, and he is regularly singled out in client reviews for his ear for canopy species and ability to spot birds at long range.
