About

Caribbean Conservation Trust is a US-based nonprofit founded in 1996 that has run authorized birding and conservation tours to Cuba longer than almost any other operator. The trust holds US Department of the Treasury licensing for travel to Cuba and has historically been the primary legal route for American birders wanting to see the country's endemic suite. Trips combine field birding across Zapata Swamp, Cayo Coco, and the Sierra del Rosario with visits to Cuban conservation projects and partner researchers. Target birds include the full Cuban endemic suite — Bee Hummingbird, Cuban Tody, Cuban Trogon, Zapata Wren and Zapata Sparrow, plus Fernandina's Flicker. The operation maintains long-running relationships with Cuban guides and ornithologists, and the conservation component is genuine rather than incidental — a meaningful share of trip economics is directed at in-country bird conservation work.
