About
Bonaire Bird Tours is a small island-based operation run by Susan, a Caribbean Birding Trail certified interpretive guide who has lived on Bonaire for more than three decades. She is supported by guide Martijn, and the pair specialise in half-day tours that work the island's varied dryland and wetland habitats.
Their core itineraries cover three routes across the island: the southern Pekelmeer salt pans and Lac Bay for flamingos, herons and shorebirds; an interior hike around the wastewater treatment ponds; and a northern dry-forest loop. Custom tours are offered for visitors hunting specific Bonaire targets such as the endemic Yellow-shouldered Parrot (locally 'lora').
The outfit is firmly local and small-scale, leaning on long resident knowledge of the island's flamingo colonies, parrot roosts and migrant traps rather than running multi-day vehicle-based tours.
