About

Birdwatching Costa Rica is the birding-tour arm of Selva Mar Tour Operator, a Costa Rica–based outfitter that has been arranging programmes for visiting birders since 1991. They are headquartered in Pérez Zeledón, San José Province. The operator covers all of the country's major birding regions — the Central Valley, both Caribbean and Pacific lowlands, and the Talamanca highlands — and emphasises the role of experienced local guides in tracking down range-restricted species among Costa Rica's 812-plus recorded birds. Signature targets include Resplendent Quetzal, Sunbittern, Turquoise-browed Motmot, Black-headed Trogon and Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl.
