About
Birding in Portugal is a nature-watching holiday outfit run by owner-guide Frank McClintock from Quinta do Barranco da Estrada, a lakeside lodge in Santa Clara a Velha in Portugal's Alentejo region. The operation packages all-inclusive birding holidays and day excursions led by fully licensed local guides, with dedicated photographic hides set up in the lodge garden and along a nearby river.
The property has logged more than 250 bird species and the team's interests stretch well beyond birds to mammals, reptiles, butterflies and dragonflies, giving guests a broader natural-history experience in a sparsely populated corner of southern Portugal. The lodge has been recognised with TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice award and Green Leaders certification for its sustainability practices.
