About

Aves Cantabricas is a small, Spanish-registered active-tourism company based in Torrelavega, Cantabria, on the green northern coast of Spain. Founded in 2005 and led by director Alejandro Garcia Herrera, the outfit specialises in personalised guided walks and photography days targeting the migratory waterbirds, forest birds and raptors of the Cantabrian Mountains and adjoining coast. The company describes itself as a specialist in Iberian vertebrate fauna and works alongside scientific advisor Juan G. Navedo, a marine biologist with extensive published work on migratory waterbird ecology. Aves Cantabricas also runs mammal, reptile and amphibian tours, but the bulk of its bookings are tailor-made birding itineraries built around clients' wishlists, from mountain raptors to coastal waders.
