About

Aratinga Tours is a small, owner-run birding and natural-history outfit based in San José, Costa Rica. The company was founded by Pieter Westra, a Belgian-born biologist who has lived and birded in Costa Rica for more than a decade and personally leads most departures. While Costa Rica remains the home base — with itineraries covering both slopes and the highlands — Aratinga also runs selected tours to Brazil's Amazon and Pantanal and to Ecuador's Galapagos, Andes and Amazon regions. The operation is deliberately small-group and personalised, with a particular emphasis on locating specialities like Resplendent Quetzal, Agami Heron, Great Green Macaw, King Vulture and Sunbittern.
