About

Alentejo Birdwatching is a small Portuguese operator based five kilometres from Santiago do Cacém in the coastal Alentejo, run by Bert Snijder since 2010. The business combines guided birding holidays and excursions with on-site accommodation across six properties, allowing birders to base themselves at the heart of the steppe, lagoon, and estuary habitats of the lower Alentejo. Day trips reach steppe country for bustards and sandgrouse, the Santo André Lagoon (with over 300 species recorded), nearby cliffs for raptors, and pine forests. The operator is licensed under No. 50/2014 of Portugal's National Register of Tourist Entertainment Agents and runs both private trips and small group itineraries focused on the region's specialities.
